This study addresses the crime of child recruitment in armed conflicts as one of the most serious international crimes violating international humanitarian law and human rights law, due to the exploitation of children in combat or military support roles. It highlights the legal framework established by the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, which criminalizes this practice as a war crime that entails individual criminal responsibility, while analyzing its elements and various forms. The study also examines the role of the International Criminal Court in prosecuting perpetrators despite practical challenges related to evidence and enforcement. The study concludes that child recruitment remains a grave violation requiring strengthened international protection and more effective deterrence and accountability mechanisms to ensure an end to impunity.
