Abstract
The aluminum alloy AA6005 was heat treated for natural and artificial hardening after quenching, in two different cooling rates. Then, the samples are subjected to tensile, hardness and fatigue tests to determine their mechanical properties. These mechanical characteristics, static and dynamic, showed a significant divergence in terms of treating conditions.
Experiments were conducted to illustrate the effect of the different treatment parameters; sensitivity to quenching rates, the pre-precipitation state and age hardening temperature on the alloy behavior. The effect of the microstructure changes on the various properties were evaluated by Optical Microscopy (OM), Microhardness, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) combined with X-ray analysis (EDS), Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) and the X-ray Diffraction (XRD).
The effect of heat treatments on the static and dynamic properties of the studied samples were compared and discussed on the basis of the properties of non-treated samples.
