This study investigates desertification monitoring in Algeria's Hodna Basin by analyzing climate-human interactions through an integrated approach combining remote sensing (NDVI, SAVI indices), field data, and the MEDALUS methodological framework. The primary objectives were to assess land sensitivity to desertification and develop sustainable mitigation strategies that balance ecological preservation with local development needs. Findings indicate 26.4% of the territory shows extreme vulnerability, with severely degraded soils (51-67% based on vegetation indices) and declining plant cover, primarily due to both climatic factors and human activities such as overgrazing and unsustainable farming practices. The research identifies effective solutions including the Green Dam project, dune stabilization techniques, and agroforestry systems, while emphasizing the need for local adaptation and community engagement. These findings provide a scientific basis for desertification control policies, proposing an integrated strategy combining technical innovation, participatory governance, and ongoing research on resilient species to protect this fragile ecosystem while supporting regional socioeconomic development.
