Abstract in English: This study examines Arab prisoners during the First World War between 1914 and 1918. It begins by analyzing the geopolitical conditions that preceded the outbreak of the war. The study shows how the Arab world became involved because of Ottoman rule and European colonial control. It focuses on Arab participation in the fighting within Ottoman, French, and British forces. It also explains how forced recruitment pushed many Arabs into battlefields unrelated to their national interests. The study discusses the capture of Arab soldiers and their transfer to different prison camps. These prisoners suffered from hunger, disease, isolation, harsh treatment, and weak legal protection. It also highlights the role of the International Committee of the Red Cross and archival records in tracing prisoners. The study treats captivity as a human and psychological experience, not only as a military event. Captivity left deep physical and mental effects on many released prisoners after their return. The war also caused heavy human and social losses in Arab societies. The study argues that captivity helped shape political awareness among some returning prisoners. Their individual suffering became part of a wider collective memory. This memory later supported Arab anti-colonial and liberation discourse. The study concludes that Arab prisoners were a neglected but significant group in the history of the war. Keywords: Arab prisoners, First World War, forced recruitment, prison camps, human suffering, liberation thought, Arab world.
