Throughout history, humanity has known many different systems of government, and opinions have differed about the most suitable system of government. Perhaps the most famous of these political systems is the democratic system, which many Western countries have adopted and through which they have achieved development and advancement for their peoples. This has led many peoples to call for its implementation, as it allows them to rule and get rid of authoritarian systems of government. In contrast, in our Islamic world, there are those who see democracy as nothing but one aspect of what is known in Islam as Shura, and there are those who see democracy as a secular trend that is completely contrary to the Shura system in Islam, and that despite the positives it carries as a system of government, its negatives are greater.
