Abstract

Research Summary:
We studied the Islamic legal rulings on fasting. At the beginning of the research, we defined fasting according to the four schools of Islamic jurisprudence, outlining its most important conditions, categories, and general impediments. We then addressed the specific legal rulings pertaining to women during their fast.
We compiled the rulings on menstruation, postpartum bleeding, and irregular bleeding, as well as those concerning pregnancy and breastfeeding. We discussed in detail the hardships arising from pregnancy and breastfeeding, clarifying the opinions of the scholars on these matters and the required makeup fasts or expiation for each period during which a woman has a legitimate excuse.
We also addressed some contemporary issues related to fasting that may affect a woman's fast, such as vaginal suppositories, douches, endoscopy, external cosmetics, and others.
Through this, the role of the scholars and their interpretations in applying rulings to new situations becomes clear, as does the role of modern medicine in clarifying the scientific facts upon which legal rulings are based.
