Abstract

Abstract: At the end of the nineteenth and the beginning of the twentieth centuries, the Arab region experienced an intellectual and cultural labor known as the "Nahda" (Renaissance) era. This movement was not limited to male pioneers; rather, it witnessed the birth of a genuine feminist consciousness in which women were transformed into active agents of change. These historical and analytical study traces women’s intellectual and practical contributions, highlighting the authenticity of their movement that arose from within their own environment to address their specific issues and dismantle the legacies of the "Era of Isolation" and near-total illiteracy. This transformation was manifested through three primary pillars: formal education and the establishment of schools; the emergence of women’s journalism and magazines as free platforms to present their issues; and the formulation of educational thought, along with the founding of associations and institutional initiatives. Consequently, the female pioneers succeeded in striking a delicate balance between openness to modernity and the preservation of the tenets of Arab-Islamic identity, enabling women to reclaim their role as active partners in the Renaissance and nation-building. Keywords: Arab Renaissance, Arab women, women’s education, women’s journalism, women’s magazines, Arab female pioneers, women’s associations.
