dc.description.abstractABSTRACT Thepresentthesisjuxtaposestwopoets,PhilipFreneaufromtheUSAandMoufdiZakaria fromAlgeria,whosepoemsillustratewhatis widelyknownasliteratureoftherevolution.In thisresearch,theoverallpurposeistopinpointandunmasktheliteraryfunctionofthe variousideologiesembodiedwithintheselectedpoems,andtodeterminethereasonbehind choosingthemasmajorstructuringelements.Toachievethesegoals,thestudyresortstothe CriticalDiscourseAnalysisapproachwhichaimsatexploringcriticallyideological standpointsastheyareexpressedandmanifestedindiscourse.Thisstudyis significantinthe sensethatitattemptsinarelativelygroundbreakingwayto drawclosertwoliteratures- AlgerianandAmerican-whichseemdifferent,but happentohaveseveralthingsincommon. Afterinvestigation,ithasbeenrevealedthatnature,politics,andreligionareeffectivelyused asideologicalmeansforliberatingthealienated,oppressedindividualsfromtheircolonial rulers,andthatwords arenolessimportantthanweaponsinthestruggleforindependence.en_US
