Abstract
This dissertation focuses on the study of congestion in mobile telecommunication
networks, with particular emphasis on microwave transmission systems. The work aims to
analyze the causes and effects of congestion and to examine the methods used for its
monitoring and resolution. The study presents an overview of mobile network architectures
and transmission technologies, including microwave and optical fiber systems. It also
explores network management and monitoring tools, particularly the Network Cloud Engine
(NCE) and Web Local Craft Terminal (Web LCT), used to supervise network performance
and detect congestion issues. As part of the practical work carried out at Mobilis, several
congestion cases were analyzed using network performance indicators (KPIs), traffic
measurements, and alarm monitoring. Different types of congestion affecting microwave
links, Ethernet interfaces, and optical transmission networks were investigated. Various
optimization solutions, such as capacity upgrades, traffic rebalancing, and interface
migration, were proposed to improve network performance. The results highlight the
importance of continuous monitoring and efficient resource management in ensuring service
quality and network reliability.
