Abstract
The attempt to ground knowledge on a certain foundation constitutes one of the most prominent issues
addressed by contemporary philosophy. Among the most notable figures to confront this crisis was the philosopher
Bertrand Russell, through his method of logical analysis, which is predicated on logical atomism and the verification
principle. The subject of logical empiricism is based on reducing every proposition to primary sensory atoms that can
be verified empirically; anything else is considered a meaningless proposition.
This study aims, first, to introduce the most important intellectual influences on Bertrand Russell and how they
contributed to the emergence of his analytic philosophy, starting from his family background up to his academic life
at Cambridge. Secondly, it aims to highlight the relationship between sensory experience and symbolic logic in
judging reality through the use of symbols, connectives, and logical constants—thereby transcending traditional
natural language in favor of a symbolic language characterized by precision and rigor. In doing so, Russell offers an
attempt to rescue philosophy from metaphysical ambiguity and rebuild it on a logical-empirical foundation. The third
objective is to critique metaphysical knowledge through logical empiricism and subsequently apply it to the issues of
religion and ethics to demonstrate their lack of cognitive validity.
In this research, we relied on the method of critical analysis by examining Russell's original sources, raising the
following problematic: To what extent was Russell able to connect sensory experience with symbolic logic in
describing the structure of reality with utmost precision? The research concludes that Russell's logical method
succeeded to a large extent in eliminating metaphysical concepts from the philosophical domain and linking his
philosophy to science; however, it was unable to reduce the religious and ethical dimensions of human existence.
