Abstract: This study aims to reveal the role of non-verbal communication in improving social interaction among children with high-functioning autism spectrum disorder from the perspective of practicing orthophonists in the field. It stems from a main problem investigating how gestures, facial expressions, and eye contact contribute to facilitating social interaction for this category. To achieve this objective, the descriptive-analytical approach was adopted, and a questionnaire was administered to a purposive sample of (33) male and female orthophonists across the provinces of M'Sila and Bordj Bou Arréridj. The study yielded several key results, most notably that non-verbal communication plays an active and direct role in narrowing the communicative gap and developing social interaction skills among high-functioning autistic children. Furthermore, specialists emphasized that this category possesses a significant readiness to grasp the meanings of bodily and facial expressions, which necessitates integrating non-verbal communication techniques as a fundamental pillar in the therapeutic and rehabilitative programs tailored for them.
