Abstract

Abstract This study aimed to identify the perceived role of the school and career guidance counselor among secondary school principals in the state of M'Sila. It employed a descriptive-evaluative approach, surveying a sample of 48 secondary school principals. Data was collected using a questionnaire developed by Dawair Souria. After statistical analysis and discussion of the data, the results revealed the following: • The perceived role of the school and career guidance counselor among secondary school principals was largely positive, with a very high overall score on the questionnaire. • In terms of information and guidance: A high degree of positive perception was observed regarding the counselor's role in organizing students' academic and career choices and framing the information process for their benefit. • In terms of school guidance: High appreciation was shown for the counselor's role in providing psychological and educational support and preventative interventions aimed at achieving student adjustment and combating school dropout. • In terms of evaluation and follow-up: High appreciation was shown for the counselor's role in providing statistics and analyzing quarterly results, which serves as an accurate numerical tool revealing the strengths and weaknesses of academic achievement within the institution to the administration. • Professional Seniority Variable: The absence of any statistically significant differences in managers' responses based on years of professional experience demonstrates the consistency of managerial perceptions of the counselor's role. • Educational Qualification Variable: The lack of statistically significant differences attributable to managers' educational qualifications confirms that the evaluation is based on objective field performance criteria. • The consensus and consistency of the responses confirm that the profession of guidance counselor derives its legitimacy from unified ministerial legislation, making its existence an official necessity and an essential and indispensable role for the smooth operation and stability of the institution, not a secondary one.
