Abstract

This study aimed to identify the relationship between self-esteem and burnout among firefighters. To achieve this objective, we adopted a descriptive approach, deemed the most suitable for describing the phenomenon, collecting data, and conducting field research to obtain reliable information. We administered both a self-esteem scale and a burnout scale to a sample of 50 firefighters in M'Sila. After statistical analysis of the data, the results showed that: • There were no statistically significant differences in self-esteem levels among firefighters based on years of experience (indicating that professional self-image is strongly formed from the outset and remains stable over time). • There were no statistically significant differences in burnout levels based on years of experience (which suggests that the nature of occupational hazards in civil protection places equal pressure on both novice and experienced firefighters). • There were no statistically significant differences in self-esteem levels based on rank (confirming that a firefighter's personal value stems from the humanitarian nature of the profession, not from the rank assigned by management). • Statistically significant differences in burnout levels were found based on rank, favoring the (assistant and officer) category (demonstrating that an individual's position in the organizational structure and the nature of their responsibilities are the primary determinants of burnout).
